Medium sherry is a fortified wine from the Jerez region of Spain (15-18% ABV), made from Palomino and/or Pedro Ximénez grapes with sweetness added to the dry fino base. A standard 50ml measure contains around 0.9 units and 60-70 kcal. It provides small amounts of polyphenols from grape skin and oxidative ageing processes. Its residual sugars give a sweeter profile than dry sherry.
A 50ml sherry glass is a traditional serving and one of the lower-unit ways to consume fortified wine. Dry fino and manzanilla sherries have fewer residual sugars than medium if sugar intake is a consideration.
