Strong cider (typically 7-8% ABV or above) is significantly more potent than standard cider; a pint at 7.5% ABV contains over 4 units of alcohol and around 270-300 kcal. This represents nearly a third of the weekly 14-unit NHS guideline in a single pint. Strong ciders are associated with higher risk of acute intoxication and carry all the long-term health risks of heavy alcohol consumption.
One pint of strong cider can contain as many units as a bottle of wine. Treat with the same caution as spirits and wine; measure and track units carefully.
