Guinness draught stout is a dark Irish ale at 4.1-4.2% ABV with a distinctive creamy nitrogen-infused head. It is often assumed to be high in iron (a myth — it contains only modest amounts), but it does provide small amounts of B vitamins, folate, silicon, and antioxidant polyphenols from the roasted barley that gives it its dark colour. A pint contains around 2.3 units and 210 kcal.
The iron-rich reputation of Guinness is a myth; a pint provides around 0.3mg iron — a trivial amount. Its polyphenols from roasted malt are its most nutritionally distinctive feature among mainstream beers.
