Dried stuffing mix is a commercially prepared convenience product typically made from dehydrated breadcrumbs, dried herbs (sage, onion, thyme), fat powder, and salt. In dry form it is very high in sodium and carbohydrate-dense. Per reconstituted serving it provides modest energy, carbohydrate, and some B vitamins from the fortified breadcrumbs, alongside a significant sodium contribution.
Reconstitute with just enough boiling water to bind — add a knob of butter or a drizzle of olive oil for richer flavour. Bulk out a packet stuffing mix with grated apple, chopped chestnuts, or cooked sausagemeat for a more substantial and flavourful result.
