Canned rice pudding is a convenience dessert made from short-grain or pudding rice cooked in sweetened, full-fat or semi-skimmed milk and canned for long shelf life. It provides calcium, phosphorus, vitamin B12, and riboflavin from the milk, alongside carbohydrate from rice and added sugar. Energy content is typically 80–100 kcal/100g. It is one of the more nutritious convenience desserts due to its milk base.
Serve straight from the can (cold or warmed) with a teaspoon of jam, a sprinkling of nutmeg, or fresh fruit to add flavour without adding much extra sugar. Choose low-sugar varieties if available.
