✦ Northern English heritage legume ✦ Plant protein and fibre ✦ Earthy distinctive flavour ✦ Folate and iron

Carlin peas (also called black peas or maple peas) are a dark brown heritage legume traditional in Northern England, particularly eaten on Bonfire Night. They provide plant protein, fibre, folate, iron, and manganese. Their earthy, slightly bitter flavour is distinct from other peas and they are usually sold dried.
